Welcome To Medstead
Welcome to the village of Medstead, situated to the east of Winchester, west of Alton and south-east of Basingstoke in the county of Hampshire, England.
Located on a plateau on the Hampshire Downs between the valleys of the Itchen, to the west, and Meon, to the east, it is one of the highest villages in Hampshire, at over 700 feet (210 metres) above sea level and has a population of around 2,000.
This guide to Medstead arises from our community's wish, expressed through the Parish Plan, for information to enhance the welcoming atmosphere of our village.
New or old resident alike, we hope you find this guide an interesting and informative introduction to our village.
We would like to thank local artist Jennifer Lines for the line drawing illustrations and the village organisations who contributed to the guide for their commitment to the community of Medstead.
The guide provides an introduction to the main village organisations, social and interest groups, and a directory of local services.
Medstead has a large number of active interest groups and many regular village events, which help make our village a friendly community, with an active social life.
Our traditional annual Village Fête is held in July on the Village Green and in the Village Hall, with a parade, stalls, refreshments and entertainment. It raises money for village causes under the auspices of the Fête Committee. A Harvest Supper, organised by St. Andrew's Church, is held in the Village Hall in September and all residents are welcome. In October, the annual Mick Carter Memorial Walk raises funds for the Medstead over-60s New Year's Party, held in January in the Village Hall.
Note: The events in the guide may be subject to change. Please check with individual organisations listed for the latest information.
