One of the most remarkable characters to live in the parish of Ropley was Mr Henry Joyce Mulcock who lived at Ropley Lodge in the 19th century. Upon his death he left sums of money in trust for distribution to the poor and elderly in Ropley and Medstead, known as the 'Mulcock' charities.
