Local Government operates at different levels. For Medstead Parish, the first tier of local government is Hampshire County Council and the second tier is East Hants District Council. 

Medstead is part of the Four Marks, Medstead and Chawton Ward of East Hampshire District Council and has three elected Ward Councillors. It is part of the Alton Rural Hampshire County Council Division with one elected Country Councillor.

Medstead is represented by the East Hampshire Parliamentary Constituency and the South East European Constituency.
