THE PARISH OF MEDSTEAD TRUST FUND (H J MULCOCK CHARITY) - Charity Reg. 237216

One of the most remarkable characters to live in the neighbouring parish of Ropley, was Mr Henry Joyce Mulcock who lived at Ropley Lodge in the 19th century. Upon his death in 1875, he left sums of money in trust for distribution to the poor and elderly in Ropley and Medstead, known as the 'Mulcock' charities.

The objective of the Charity was to distribute the interest earned to the ‘poor of the parish’ around Christmas, with a proviso that any surplus earned could be paid out to help the poor as required.

There is no interpretation of ‘poor’ but since 1993 the Trustees have determined this as any less well-off person in the parish who in their opinion, might benefit. This could for example, include a child who might not have funding for a school trip.

Requests for assistance from the Mulcock Charity may be directed via the Medstead Parish Council Clerk at clerk@medsteadpc.org or to PO Box 343 ALTON, Hampshire GU34 9JS, who will then submit to the Charity Trustees for their consideration.
